Married Into Crazy with Snooks and Lovey

Married Into Crazy with Snooks and Lovey

Today, I checked out "Married Into Crazy" with Snooks and Lovey. Right off the bat, we discover that their podcast is all about love, laughter, and surviving the wild ride of marriage—because who doesn’t need a little crazy in their life, right?

They share their own story, which includes some dramatic turns like a heart-stabbing incident (no, not the romantic kind). We poke a bit of fun at their volume issues and their tendency to take scenic routes to get to the point. They do make some great points about working together. So, grab your favorite snack, tune in, and let’s get ready to laugh, cringe, and maybe even learn a thing or two about love in this episode!

Takeaways:

  • Married Into Crazy is a podcast where Snooks and Lovey share their wacky marriage adventures, proving that love can survive the craziest situations.
  • The show needs to work on its volume issues. This could be solved by using Auphonic.
  • They could introduce the episode and let people know what it's about, and get to the topic asap.
  • To boost newsletter sign-ups, create a lead magnet.
  • The two hosts have a great chemistry and do a great job of making points and telling related stories.
  • They are missing out on SEO by not having each episode with its own page.

Speaker A

Here's your host, multi award winning hall of fame podcaster Dave Jackson.

Speaker A

Hey, welcome to the podcast hot seat.

Speaker A

Today, as I said, Married into Crazy with Snooks and Lovey.

Speaker A

Here's their description from our good friends at Apple Podcasts, Married Coaching for love, laughter and overcoming adversity.

Speaker A

We met on a blind date and when we got engaged four months later, my heart was pierced not by Cupid's arrow, but by a serrated steak knife.

Speaker A

And that's when our journey began.

Speaker A

That's when we realized we both married into crazy.

Speaker A

We're just real folks sharing talk about love and life while occasionally tackling a few taboos, stereotypes and misconceptions confronting the institution of marriage and relationships at large.

Speaker A

Though we can't speak for everyone, we can offer our unique perspective.

Speaker A

If you've ever wanted to be a fly on the wall and listen to another married couple's random conversations, stick around and get your ear hustle on with a couple that truly married into crazy.

Speaker A

Their website married into crazy.com.

Speaker A

here is my conversation with Lovey, better known as Ernie from Married into Crazy.

Speaker A

I'll call you Ernie.

Speaker A

Is it weird if I call you Ernie?

Speaker A

Do you really want me to call you Lovey?

Speaker A

I mean, I can call whatever you want, buddy.

Speaker B

You know what, if you call me Ernie, Ernie I can cash the check.

Speaker B

Lovey I have a little difficulty with, but Lovey's more of a family name.

Speaker B

My wife's been calling me that for 29 years, so it's.

Speaker B

I go by either.

Speaker B

Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Speaker A

Got it.

Speaker A

Let's talk about the show.

Speaker A

When did you decide to start the show and why?

Speaker A

Why?

Speaker A

What's the motivation of it?

Speaker B

When we first got married.

Speaker B

Actually, even before we got married, there's a story we ended up having some difficulties and we went through some challenges.

Speaker B

I ended up getting stabbed through my heart and there was a lot that took place.

Speaker B

And so we had drama before we got married, got married, had a period of four years where everything was working out, or so I thought.

Speaker B

And then my wife asked for a divorce and then we had to figure it Out.

Speaker B

And as we kind of got over the hump, we became this couple that a lot of people gravitated towards.

Speaker B

And so we ended up becoming this couple that we ended up counseling people unofficially.

Speaker B

And so we decided that we wanted to be that couple that we needed when we were going through things.

Speaker B

And people said, I had a voice for radio, this, that, and the other.

Speaker B

And I looked into doing some voice acting.

Speaker B

And so we decided to do some podcasting, or at least I decided and kind of dragged her along in the process.

Speaker B

And this was after we saw and met Dr.

Speaker B

Eric Thomas, and he did this whole talk about, you know, just find out what you love to do and just go for it.

Speaker B

You know, why not try it and then decide whether or not it's the thing for you.

Speaker B

And we did that in 2018, and we've been podcasting every week since then, ever since.

Speaker A

Very cool.

Speaker A

The nice thing about this is, you know who your.

Speaker A

Your audience is.

Speaker A

People that are trying to keep their marriage together.

Speaker A

So that's not a hard question.

Speaker A

What do you judge your success by?

Speaker B

That's a great question.

Speaker B

People always ask.

Speaker B

And it's hard.

Speaker B

There's not a true metric, if you will, because if you go to our website, we always talk about how we want to actually positively impact a million couples.

Speaker B

There's no way to really, truly measure that.

Speaker B

But we believe that whether you're listening to us or watching us, however you're exposed to married into crazy.

Speaker B

If we can get some feedback in the form of an email, any type of feedback whatsoever, whatever the form may be, that there was a positive nugget that you received, we believe that once you're actually getting that, then you become a beacon of light within your community.

Speaker B

And so then it kind of cascades out.

Speaker B

It's almost like that ripple effect.

Speaker B

You drop a rock in the middle of a lake and then it ripples.

Speaker B

We believe that once something like that happens within a couple, then you have a tendency to share that with other couples, and then there's that cascading effect.

Speaker B

So there's no true metric other than people start to talk about you.

Speaker B

Then you start.

Speaker B

Your audience starts to grow a little bit more and more and more.

Speaker B

And every now and then, something cool happens where someone says, hey, I listened to your podcast, that you didn't even know.

Speaker B

There was an incident where I was.

Speaker B

Every now and then, my wife and I decided, we're going to quit.

Speaker B

We just never quit at the same time.

Speaker B

And right when I was about to quit one time, and I was really serious about it.

Speaker B

We got this random email from a lady in South Africa about how she found our podcast, and it made all the difference for her in working out some things with her husband.

Speaker B

And actually we framed it into sitting over on the wall because it serves as a constant reminder that even when we don't know that we're making an impact, we just don't know.

Speaker B

And because we find it quite therapeutic.

Speaker B

Hey, we just keep going.

Speaker A

Well, I noticed on the website, people can schedule a call with you now.

Speaker A

Is that something you're charging for?

Speaker A

Because it seems like a logical choice.

Speaker A

I'm like, well, if we're going to do counseling, we might as well get paid for our time.

Speaker A

But when I kind of went halfway through the step, I was like, when do I pay you guys?

Speaker A

So how does that work?

Speaker B

That's right.

Speaker B

So what we do is we do a discovery call in the very beginning.

Speaker B

So the first call is anywhere from a 15 minute to 30 minute call that we consider just giving back.

Speaker B

And it's just really finding out, okay, what's the challenge?

Speaker B

We introduce ourselves and we kind of fill each other out.

Speaker B

We explain our qualifications and see if it's a fit.

Speaker B

And then from then, you can decide whether or not you want to schedule a coaching session with us and continue to move on from there.

Speaker B

And there are different tiers through which you can actually work with us.

Speaker A

Got it.

Speaker A

Now, is that then the metric?

Speaker A

I know that you want to help a million people, but is it a case where if you had, let's say, whatever, 200 downloads and no counseling calls, you would be depressed, but if you had 200 downloads and you had for clients.

Speaker A

Okay, now we're.

Speaker B

Okay, exactly.

Speaker B

Okay, so it's to the point where we get.

Speaker B

Yeah, exactly.

Speaker B

So the podcast is us giving back to the community, and we do enjoy that.

Speaker B

But then we have actually had some clients.

Speaker B

Like, we've had clients in Canada, over in Europe, across the United States, and it just pops up.

Speaker B

And there was a period where we actually shut it down for a while because we had a tragedy take place within our family.

Speaker B

And so we.

Speaker B

And it's really odd.

Speaker B

And you know this, that podcasting is a funny thing.

Speaker B

You can actually get a really nice sized audience, but you have to be there every single week, all the time.

Speaker B

And when we shut down for three months, it was actually four months.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's a long time.

Speaker B

It was.

Speaker B

We're starting all over again.

Speaker B

And that entire audience, it's like, it's even worse than the first time.

Speaker B

Building the audience.

Speaker B

It seems like, it's a lot harder the second time around.

Speaker B

But we're rebuilding.

Speaker B

But that is the metric, really.

Speaker B

It's just getting people in.

Speaker B

And so now we've opened it up again to where we're accepting clients again.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

And something like that, when it's an unplanned just strategy, it's not.

Speaker A

You can go, hey, I've got this thing coming up, I'll see you in three weeks or something.

Speaker A

You can't really, because you.

Speaker A

A lot of times stuff like that, you don't know when you're coming back.

Speaker A

So that's tricky.

Speaker A

So what we're gonna do is play some clips from the show.

Speaker A

I found some cool things, really low hanging fruit with your website that I was like, oh, I bet he doesn't know that's going on.

Speaker A

That'll drive some more traffic to your website.

Speaker A

But the one thing I wanted to start off with is you have a clip.

Speaker A

And a lot of people do this.

Speaker A

They will pull a clip from either the conversation or if it was an interview, you know, whatever it is.

Speaker A

And the role of that clip is to make you want to hear more of the show.

Speaker A

And so when I click play on this, we get one of those and I'm gonna hit stop and go.

Speaker A

Does that make you wanna hear more?

Speaker A

And we'll see how this goes here.

Speaker A

And hopefully you should be able to hear this.

Speaker B

It was a marriage retreat they did.

Speaker B

It was their first one.

Speaker B

And so I went to go do marriage retreat in Sacramento and the message was, you know, cause most of these people have been married for a while.

Speaker B

And I was like, yo, what y'all creating?

Speaker B

Like I said, we were made in the image of God he created.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker A

So do you want to hear more?

Speaker B

I think so.

Speaker B

I guess it depends on the audience.

Speaker A

Yeah, it really does.

Speaker A

The thing is, sometimes a good hook leaves what's called a brain gap, where it's like, here he said, like, we know we're talking about creating.

Speaker A

And if he had said something like, the one thing that will strengthen your marriage to get through hard times.

Speaker A

And then you're like, oh, wait a minute, answer the question.

Speaker A

Like, one of the things you guys do is like, you said, I got stabbed.

Speaker A

Everybody's still kind of going, dave, can you ask him about getting stabbed?

Speaker A

Like, how do you get stabbed?

Speaker A

Like, oh, by the.

Speaker A

You remember?

Speaker A

Like, everybody's been stabbed.

Speaker A

It's no big deal.

Speaker A

You're like, no, no.

Speaker A

We're all like, wait, he got stabbed in the heart.

Speaker A

Can we go back and hear the end of that?

Speaker A

Story.

Speaker A

Because you.

Speaker A

You told that story here towards the beginning of the show to kind of like, hey, we've been married for 29 years.

Speaker A

We had a rough time.

Speaker A

I got stabbed.

Speaker A

And there was a part of me that's like a.

Speaker A

We took a big old tangent.

Speaker A

Like all of a sudden, we haven't really introduced the show yet.

Speaker A

And you start with your.

Speaker A

Your history, which I'm assuming that's why you do that, to kind of go, hey, here's our story.

Speaker A

But you.

Speaker A

You again, kind of go, yeah, and I got stabbed.

Speaker A

And then.

Speaker A

And then you just kind of pass over it, and there's a big chunk of my brain go, wait, time out.

Speaker A

I gotta go.

Speaker A

So is there somewhere on your website that you have the stabbing story?

Speaker B

A portion of it in the very beginning?

Speaker B

You'll see.

Speaker B

It's all in script.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker B

Where it talks about how we began, it's kind of like our love origin, right?

Speaker B

And it talks about how our hearts were pierced not by Cupid's arrow, but by my wife's ex boyfriend's serrated steak knife.

Speaker A

All right, but I mean, is that something you guys repeat every episode, or is it because it might be nice to have that full story and all of its gory details somewhere where you can say, hey, go back to episode two if you want to hear the details of me getting stabbed and, you know, surgery and all the other things about it.

Speaker A

Is that available somewhere?

Speaker B

That's a great call.

Speaker B

It actually is episode two.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

There you go.

Speaker A

Look at me.

Speaker A

Excellent.

Speaker B

I was like, oh, Dave listens.

Speaker B

But yeah, no, we just had a conversation about that.

Speaker B

I told my wife that because she doesn't want to go back and relive it every single time.

Speaker B

I told her we need to bring that up every single time to a certain extent.

Speaker B

Not the full story, but at least a snippet, and then reference it.

Speaker A

Well, it's your street cred.

Speaker A

You know what I mean?

Speaker A

It's like, hey, we've been married 29 years, and when we're talking about married into crazy, I got stabbed.

Speaker A

You know, go ahead, try and top that.

Speaker A

You know what I mean?

Speaker A

It's like, so I get why it's there.

Speaker A

Let's listen to the beginning of the show.

Speaker B

Whether you've been married one or 20 plus years, at some point you realize you married into crazy.

Speaker B

And that's what our show is all about.

Speaker B

If your marriage or relationship is compassionate, real, accountable, zealous and yielding, or just plain crazy, snooks and lovey offer love, laughter, and a dose of reality as they unpack this thing called marriage.

Speaker B

Sit back, relax, and get your ear hustle on.

Speaker B

It's time to start the conversation.

Speaker A

So I love that good intro.

Speaker A

Lets me know what it is.

Speaker A

The one thing I noticed, and it is, it's kind of a big deal.

Speaker A

But the good news is it's really easy to fix.

Speaker A

And that is your show has serious volume issues where people come on and it's super loud.

Speaker A

And then let me play some more.

Speaker A

Because when.

Speaker A

Especially when you come in.

Speaker A

Great.

Speaker A

And then when your wife comes in, things get quiet.

Speaker B

Yo, what's up?

Speaker A

First of all, we got this.

Speaker A

This one confused me.

Speaker A

It like I've been going to the movies recently.

Speaker A

Like the actual theater at one of the commercials they show over and over and over is how much better it is to watch movies in the theater.

Speaker A

And I'm like, yeah, I know, I'm right here.

Speaker A

You don't have to tell me to go to the theater.

Speaker A

I'm already here.

Speaker A

And so we start off with this guy telling me to listen to a show that I just click play on.

Speaker A

So I'm kind of confused.

Speaker A

Your boy ET look, if you're looking.

Speaker B

To or you got to raise the bar on your marriage, you gotta, you gotta click the link and get in the marriage.

Speaker B

Crazy girl telling you this coaching is gonna take your relationship to another level.

Speaker B

Now look, you already know you need to raise the bar.

Speaker B

You know that already.

Speaker B

So stop thinking or overthinking.

Speaker B

Click that link.

Speaker B

And marriage in the crazy is gonna take you and your spouse to marital bliss.

Speaker B

Now you know, click the button.

Speaker B

Let's go.

Speaker A

Yeah, so click the button.

Speaker A

I'm like, I.

Speaker A

I just did.

Speaker A

I'm waiting for the show to start.

Speaker B

Welcome back to another episode.

Speaker A

Now notice how you guys are considerably.

Speaker A

If we go back to that intro where she was talking, I'm going to see if I get lucky here.

Speaker A

At some point, you realize, nice and loud.

Speaker A

And then we go to you guys.

Speaker B

Episode of the Mary in a crazy podcast with Considerably I am lovey.

Speaker B

And.

Speaker A

And if we care if we want to get nitpicky, there's a bit of going on there with the microphone, but we'll let that.

Speaker A

We're not going to get nitpicky.

Speaker B

Thank you for actually joining us for another episode because you could be doing lots of different things and you've chosen to build your marriage or at least reach out.

Speaker B

Look into.

Speaker B

Listen to another resource that's going to help your relationship or at least we hope so you chose to partake in some of the shenanigans.

Speaker B

Exactly.

Speaker B

And so married for 28 years, going on 29 years.

Speaker A

So just to show you what this looks like, you'll notice here, these are about right where you want them, right?

Speaker A

And then you get this, this kind of quiet thing.

Speaker A

And then I think this is ET Saying tune in.

Speaker A

But this is where you guys come in and, like, way down here, like, you're really quiet.

Speaker A

And the.

Speaker A

The thing that will drive people nuts, especially if they're listening in the car, because most of the time, if I'm sitting in a quiet room and it gets quiet, not a big deal because I don't have anything competing.

Speaker A

But if you're in the car and the sound of the tires and traffic and stuff, that's when you have to really grab the volume knob.

Speaker A

And if you continually make your audience grab the volume knob, they're gonna get one of those times, they're gonna reach for the volume knob and go, okay, that's enough.

Speaker A

And they just hit delete or go to the next.

Speaker A

And so you can kind of see here as I go through, you gotta, you know, we're kind of back to normal.

Speaker A

But then down here, when you played a clip of E.T.

Speaker A

you know, now I'm blasting your head off.

Speaker A

And then we kind of go back to being quiet.

Speaker A

And then if I go way down to the end, the end is super duper loud.

Speaker A

Now, there's a free tool you can use to fix this called Auphonic.

Speaker A

It's a U, P, H O, N I C.

Speaker A

And they give you, I think, two hours a month to just you upload.

Speaker A

Basically, you could export out of whatever you're using to a WAV file uploaded to Auphonic, and they will turn it into an MP3 file and leverage out all the volume stuff.

Speaker A

So that was just the first thing I kind of noticed.

Speaker A

I was like, oh, wait a minute, we got a volume issue here.

Speaker A

Now, again, in a quiet room, I noticed it, but it wasn't like I couldn't hear her, but it was just a case where I was like, wait a minute, what's going on here?

Speaker A

So that's, again, a super easy fix.

Speaker A

And are you both sharing that one microphone?

Speaker B

No, we have two mics.

Speaker A

Okay, good, because that's the other thing that I see.

Speaker A

A lot of times people will share and then somebody's hogging it or whatever.

Speaker A

But you got to make sure that when you're on the mic, you're on the mic.

Speaker A

I always say, about three fingers away.

Speaker A

Like right now, I'm actually not as close as I usually am, but that just helps eliminate some of the room noise.

Speaker A

I usually talk across it because that way, when I say, please bring pizza pronto, I don't get all these plosives and popping P's and B's and all that other fun stuff.

Speaker A

But all in all, I thought the intro, the actual intro, where the lady said, welcome to the show and here's what's gonna happen.

Speaker A

And then you explain that.

Speaker A

All in all, it started off.

Speaker A

But the thing that I thought was interesting is you then did a quick view of your story and you got your street cred in there, and then you kind of went on tangents a little bit.

Speaker A

And so the title was about the importance of creating together.

Speaker A

And you talked about E.T.

Speaker A

and then you played a clip of E.T.

Speaker A

kind of introducing the topic.

Speaker A

And the thing I noticed is you kind of kept almost getting to it.

Speaker A

And then you take a little tangent.

Speaker A

Like I remember there was around the eight minute mark, you kind of introduced it and then you got into in it.

Speaker A

I love it because it shows the nature of your relationship, because you're both kind of joking about who gets top billing, you or her, things like that.

Speaker A

But I was like, okay, but I never really heard you say, on today's show, we're going to talk about blank.

Speaker A

We kind of got a hint of it at the beginning, but the audience at the beginning of the show is kind of like, today we're going to talk about blank.

Speaker A

And that way they can decide, is this for me or not?

Speaker A

And some people like, well, yeah, but what if it's not for them?

Speaker A

Then they're going to tune out.

Speaker A

I'm like, yeah, and you just save them 20 minutes of time of not, you know, or eight minutes till they go, oh, this isn't about me.

Speaker A

And then they skip.

Speaker A

So anytime you can let the audience know what's coming, they benefit.

Speaker A

My buddy Eric Johnson always says, nobody gets on a bus without knowing where it's going.

Speaker A

So.

Speaker A

And if you kind of do your intro story, which I understand why you're doing that, let's say that's three minutes.

Speaker A

So that's a little long, but I get it.

Speaker A

It's a long story.

Speaker A

It's hard to summarize 29 years in the 30 seconds, but those people are going to skip that.

Speaker A

If you do that every episode, you'll see if you go on Apple podcasts where people probably are skipping a big chunk of the beginning.

Speaker A

And that sounds bad, but they're probably your followers who have heard you talk about your origin story.

Speaker A

Before, and they're like, hey, where's the thing where I talk about creating together?

Speaker A

So they're probably looking for that.

Speaker A

So keep that in your mind as well.

Speaker A

But you kind of want to get to it.

Speaker A

And so when I looked at it and like, when do you actually get into creating?

Speaker A

It was around the 12 minute mark.

Speaker A

And for me, that's a little long.

Speaker A

You want to kind of get to it.

Speaker A

And this is again, consider your source.

Speaker A

This is the old teacher speaking, right?

Speaker A

You tell them what you're going to tell them, and then you tell them, and then you tell them what you told them.

Speaker A

And I didn't really hear anything besides that guy at the beginning saying, God is a creator and we should be a creator as well.

Speaker A

And so for me, I was just like, just a little clearer concept of like, here's what we're going to talk about today.

Speaker A

And you know, if you can, here's how you're going to benefit.

Speaker A

But the benefit's always you're going to have a stronger marriage.

Speaker A

So that doesn't really change.

Speaker A

But there was some good stuff in here.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

A couple of things.

Speaker A

Well, I realized the second time I listened, I put in my notes, who is ET but you explained it when I went back and listened because you're just like, here's E.T.

Speaker A

and I was like, phone home.

Speaker A

Like, what's going on?

Speaker A

And I realized when I listened to it the second time, I was like, oh, no, you introduced him, so that's good.

Speaker A

But there was, when he came on, there was a bit of a volume jump.

Speaker A

But I did like the fact that you had a section here where you kind of got into like, why do we need to create?

Speaker B

But when all that began and then it felt right, and then it felt like we need to take more steps in the direction that we're being led.

Speaker B

It was, we had no idea that it was about, you know, I need you to create like I created.

Speaker B

I need you to help create a spark in other couples relationships.

Speaker B

I need you to actually create in your home so your children can actually see that I'm a God of creation and that you are, you know, an extension of my creation and within your creation in the home that you need to encourage them to create as well.

Speaker B

It's a cascading effect.

Speaker B

Yeah.

Speaker B

And when I speak to the other couples, you know, I've spoken to quite a few husbands and a few couples that we're like, you know what?

Speaker B

We've realized that standing alone, we do quite, you know, we applaud each other and we do great things on our own, but it's like, wow, what are we really doing?

Speaker B

And they think, oh, I need to create a business or I need to create, you know, something else.

Speaker B

And I had to explain to them that it's not necessarily broken down to like a business.

Speaker B

It doesn't have to be that you can create harmony in your home and that's creation.

Speaker B

Now you can create, you know, some happiness.

Speaker B

You can create joy if you're out there together supporting like, you know, like you're the soccer dad or the soccer mom or like last night I was, I.

Speaker B

I didn't get back on the court, but I went to go support, you know, my old partner in coaching.

Speaker B

And it was amazing to see some of the girls that I used to coach in their senior year just doing their thing and.

Speaker B

But to be there with them.

Speaker B

But he and his wife Scott and Jan, for the last probably like two years she's been there with them lock and step.

Speaker B

When they see Coach Scott, they, they ultimately see Jan.

Speaker B

They've been creating and pouring into to these young girls lives for years.

Speaker B

He and I were together coaching for what, 10 years?

Speaker B

10, 11 years.

Speaker B

And you know, he was doing it before we came together.

Speaker B

But there's so many kids that come up and they're like, oh, coach, you know, you were such an integral part of when I was a kid, when I was growing up and what they were doing and Jan was there and the support and doing stuff like we're having the bonding nights and doing things behind the scenes and getting the girls and lifting them up.

Speaker B

They were creating, they've created and poured in these individuals.

Speaker B

There's so many different things that you can do as a couple to.

Speaker A

And I'll stop it there.

Speaker A

I just thought that for me that had so many little things in it because at first you're talking about, I love the fact that people like, well, what do you mean?

Speaker A

Am I supposed to start a business together?

Speaker A

You're like, no.

Speaker A

And then you threw in.

Speaker A

So there are a lot of really things that people didn't think about that, that they kind of went, oh yeah, I am harmony and happiness and these are things I can create.

Speaker A

And the fact.

Speaker A

And then you had the real life example of your coaching buddy and his wife and when you're a soccer person or whatever.

Speaker A

And the fact that I think her name was Jan was behind the scenes helping that.

Speaker A

And then I know you brought up an example of a movie like the Oscars and everybody coming up on stage and that was good as well.

Speaker A

And at that point, I was kind of happy because I noticed at that point you'd made your point.

Speaker A

Like, we get it.

Speaker A

Working together.

Speaker A

We're stronger than we are apart.

Speaker A

And I was like, okay, I got it.

Speaker A

We've got the coaching guy.

Speaker A

We've got the movie people.

Speaker A

And at that point, you kind of were like, all right, you'd hit your point, and you kind of moved on.

Speaker A

Because I've seen people do that where they'll have a point and they'll give you four different varieties of it.

Speaker A

And that's when it gets a little old, because there's a time when your audience is going to go, yeah, we get it.

Speaker A

We're better together.

Speaker A

Next.

Speaker A

The one thing I thought that was, that I was waiting for and I didn't hear is, if this is for people that are having problems with their marriage, what are the things that they're going to say?

Speaker A

Like what?

Speaker A

I never heard the answer of, like, well, they don't want to do anything with me.

Speaker A

I didn't hear, like.

Speaker A

Like any kind of objection overcoming with that.

Speaker A

That was the only thing that I was kind of like, all right, we've got the benefit, so we understand why we should, but we're talking to people who aren't, like, getting together and things like that.

Speaker A

So what do you do when your spouse doesn't want to do things together?

Speaker A

Or what if you don't have anything in common?

Speaker A

Because I know I have some friends that they got married, everything was in common, they grew up and they grew apart, and now nothing's in common.

Speaker A

And so I'm not sure if that's something you guys would be comfortable speaking about or whatever.

Speaker A

But that was the only thing I thought, if I were to add something in here or if I was a listener, you know, what would I want?

Speaker A

But all in all, I thought it went okay, especially the real life examples.

Speaker A

The one thing that if I jump to the end, because, again, the thing that really shines through is you and Snooki's relationship.

Speaker A

Like, you guys sound like an old married couple.

Speaker A

You know what I mean?

Speaker A

And it's cute and it's warm and fuzzy, and so that's the cool part.

Speaker A

But if we get to.

Speaker A

That's why I asked you, why are you doing this?

Speaker A

And when we go to the Call to action, there almost isn't one.

Speaker A

So thanks for joining us.

Speaker B

And until the next time, be blessed.

Speaker B

Oh, and before we go, please go over to marydentalcrazy.com.

Speaker A

Oh, yeah, sorry.

Speaker B

See, all the different ways that we Pour into your marriage.

Speaker B

Yep.

Speaker B

All right.

Speaker B

Bye.

Speaker A

Bye.

Speaker B

Bye.

Speaker B

Thank you for listening to the Married into Crazy podcast with Snooks and Lovey.

Speaker B

Please, like, subscribe to and review the show wherever you access it and tell a friend about us.

Speaker B

Visit marriedintocrazy.com and see how Snooks and Lovie can bless your marriage directly.

Speaker A

All right, Again, major volume change.

Speaker A

I was like, holy cow.

Speaker A

When I first went to your site, I really.

Speaker A

The first thing I.

Speaker A

I thought you guys were selling swag, but I thought I saw swag.

Speaker A

Maybe.

Speaker B

There is.

Speaker B

There is.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker B

One of the tabs is a store that actually.

Speaker A

Store.

Speaker A

That's.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Because when I first came over, I was like, okay, let's look at the ways that, you know, I can.

Speaker A

You.

Speaker A

You can pour into me.

Speaker A

And I was like, okay, well, let's see what that is.

Speaker A

First of all, I love the fact you have a.

Speaker A

A color scheme.

Speaker A

Is this something you guys did, or did you have somebody do it for you?

Speaker B

No, we had someone do it for us.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

I'm going to say, because it looks.

Speaker A

You got a lot of nice white space in it, and you've got a color scheme with the orange and the yellow and the black.

Speaker A

So I thought that looks great when you come to it, you know, married into crazy with Snooks and Lovey marriage mentors, helping couples navigate.

Speaker A

So I know exactly what this site is and start your journey.

Speaker A

And that's when I was like, okay, cool.

Speaker A

And it's marriage counseling.

Speaker A

And then you got the videos here where everybody's, you know, testimonials and things like that.

Speaker A

So that's the part I thought was good.

Speaker A

That.

Speaker A

The fact that when I first landed here.

Speaker A

But then I thought.

Speaker A

And it was just me, like, clicking out loud.

Speaker A

I don't know why, but I missed the.

Speaker A

Start your journey, buddy.

Speaker A

That's my fault.

Speaker A

And instead I was like, oh, if I wanted to monetize, I would click on the store.

Speaker A

So when I went to the store, that's when I said, oh, wait, they're just selling swag.

Speaker A

Which I've got to ask, do you sell any, you know, married into crazy swag?

Speaker A

Because most people don't do.

Speaker A

That's good for you.

Speaker B

Actually, it's sparse.

Speaker B

In the beginning, it was a lot more.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker B

But every now and then, stuff, like, comes up, and it's not like it's a ton.

Speaker A

Right.

Speaker A

Well, that's good because I know people that have had stores for years and sell absolutely zero, and you've got a decent logo, so that Works, so that helps as well.

Speaker A

Subscribe to your newsletter.

Speaker A

Great.

Speaker A

That it's right here on the front page.

Speaker A

Is there anything you could give away, like the top 10 tips of something something?

Speaker A

Because a lot of people, we want them on our newsletter.

Speaker A

Newsletters are so powerful because now they're one click away from either ordering that swag or ordering some counseling or whatever.

Speaker A

They're one click away.

Speaker A

But most people don't wake up and go, well, I hope I can find a newsletter to sign up for today.

Speaker A

But if you give them a reason, then that might help again.

Speaker A

Now, some people will sign up for your email just because they love your show, they love you, and they want more.

Speaker A

So I love the fact you got pictures of you guys here.

Speaker A

So that's.

Speaker A

People are always gonna wanna know that.

Speaker A

And you're using your brand with all the different things that you offer here.

Speaker A

So I thought that was cool.

Speaker A

And then we finally get into, you know, the fact that you're really into coaching and you've got individual coaching and all your services.

Speaker A

So I thought that was lined up well.

Speaker A

And the one thing that is that I was like, okay, this is cool, right?

Speaker A

Everything's great.

Speaker A

And then I clicked on the podcast and you have a coaching tab as well, which, again, in case you're like me and missed the let's talk button, it's right there.

Speaker A

But when I went to podcast, what I expected to see were the episodes.

Speaker A

And they're not here now.

Speaker A

I can go to another website on YouTube, Apple or Spotify.

Speaker A

So that's good.

Speaker A

You got probably 90% of podcast listeners here.

Speaker A

And we're here, our podcast, we cover all sorts of things.

Speaker A

But one of the things you're really missing here is if you treat every episode like a blog post and just put a player and I forget who you're using.

Speaker A

I want to say Buzzsprout for your media host.

Speaker A

Whoever it is, you're missing out on, like, an insane amount of SEO.

Speaker A

Because if you had a blog post that said, you know, the title of your show, you know, how creating things together can build you stronger.

Speaker A

And then you have your, you know, here's what you can take away from this episode.

Speaker A

It's all those words are good words, and that's going to drive Google to your podcast.

Speaker A

And then if you have a player on that particular post, what happens is people will click on it and they start to listen.

Speaker A

And the longer they stay on your website, the more Google goes.

Speaker A

That's weird.

Speaker A

Every time somebody goes over to Ernie's website, they're there for like 18 minutes.

Speaker A

And so Google's gonna say, I don't know what's going on over there, but this must be a really good website because everybody else, when you go to Dave's website or Steve or Jill or whoever, they're there for 10 seconds and they leave and they're staying on your website because they're clicking on the player.

Speaker A

And you've got ways to not just SEO for marriage counseling.

Speaker A

Now you can have keywords for all those things that people are looking for with marriage counseling.

Speaker A

And so that was the big thing I saw that.

Speaker A

I was like, oh, that's some low hanging fruit.

Speaker A

And you've already typed them.

Speaker A

Oh, you're using Libsyn.

Speaker A

I remember this.

Speaker A

Now you're using Libsyn as your media host.

Speaker A

And the beauty of that is you've already got your show notes in Libsyn so you can just copy them.

Speaker A

And is this, I'm assuming, WordPress or something?

Speaker A

You just go in and make a blog post, copy and paste your show notes, and then you can copy and paste the player and embed it right there on your website.

Speaker A

And that's when I went in.

Speaker A

One of the things that you want to look at is where, when I'm listening to this show in Apple Podcasts and it says website, where does it go?

Speaker A

And right now you have it set up that people go to the Libsyn website and that's okay, but you want them to go to your website because the more people link to your website, the better the SEO.

Speaker A

If you are making these posts on your website, you can say, hey, here's where it is.

Speaker A

And then when people listen in the app, whatever that is, Apple Podcast or Spotify, there should be a link for website in that episode which will take them to your website where you have the show notes.

Speaker A

And again that's just another link back to your site which can then boost your, your SEO.

Speaker A

So that's, I mean, that's three clicks and you're, you're done.

Speaker A

And we're putting your show notes on the website.

Speaker A

That's, you know, copy, paste, copy paste.

Speaker A

So we're talking 10 clicks and you can really boost your SEO.

Speaker A

Does that kind of make sense?

Speaker B

It does, yeah.

Speaker B

I have to go back.

Speaker B

But yeah, yeah, I'm gonna say, I.

Speaker A

Realize we, I just covered that in 10 seconds.

Speaker A

But other than that, like I said, I would try to set up the show and let people know what it's about and then try to get to that as quickly as possible.

Speaker A

Now if you have like, hey, I want to talk about what's going on with my week.

Speaker A

Nothing against that.

Speaker A

I wouldn't lead with that.

Speaker A

I would put that at the end where all the super fans are still listening.

Speaker A

So if you're like, hey, let's talk about, you know, Mr.

Speaker A

Whiskers and how our cat chewed up the couch or whatever, just do that at the end.

Speaker A

That's not going to be the best first impression.

Speaker A

But all in all, like I said, you had some great things in there.

Speaker A

I hear the passion in your you guys voices.

Speaker A

And I always say, at the heart of every good podcaster is the heart of a servant.

Speaker A

And I could hear that where you guys really do want to help people.

Speaker A

Any questions for me?

Speaker B

No.

Speaker B

I think it's funny.

Speaker B

Some of the things you talked about are things that we've discussed and like you're talking about the newsletter.

Speaker B

That's something that we just talked about.

Speaker B

We have a virtual assistant and we're actually in the process of doing that because I had asked her, can we have something, a lead magnet, if you will, but converting that over to something just to add in.

Speaker B

So that's in the process and then we're aware of it.

Speaker B

I'm just trying to figure out how to actually get that volume problem actually fixed.

Speaker B

So I'm going to look up the audio.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

Auphonic.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

What do you.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

A U P H O-N I C dot com.

Speaker A

It sounds like you played that clip live.

Speaker A

So was that just going into your Scarlett or how when you actually record and edit, what are you using?

Speaker B

You're going to laugh.

Speaker A

No, just.

Speaker B

Just GarageBand.

Speaker A

There you go.

Speaker A

It's free.

Speaker A

Can't beat it.

Speaker A

So, yeah, so that's just where it's been a while.

Speaker A

I'm very rusty in GarageBand, but somewhere there's a volume meter in there and you just want to make sure that you're shooting anywhere from minus six to about minus.

Speaker A

Well, you don't want to go over zero.

Speaker A

Zero makes it distort.

Speaker A

So I usually.

Speaker A

And it's weird because the like minus 12 is low, but minus 6 is high, which sounds backwards.

Speaker A

But you're going up to zero.

Speaker A

So minus 12 would be about as quiet as I'd want to be.

Speaker A

And minus six is like right in kind of the yellow area in most places.

Speaker A

And that's.

Speaker A

That's okay because that gives you a chance if you want to get mad about something, you've got a little room without going into the.

Speaker A

The red and completely into zero.

Speaker A

But what it is is if you have, you know, a spot where this is the space we give you.

Speaker A

So it's a.

Speaker A

I think of it like a glass of water.

Speaker A

Here's.

Speaker A

Here's your empty glass to fill up with sound.

Speaker A

If you fill it up halfway, the other half is filled up with his.

Speaker A

And so what happens is you go, oh, this isn't loud enough.

Speaker A

And when you go in and say, oh, this is only half the volume, increase this volume by 2x, you're also increasing the hiss by 2x and you.

Speaker A

You end up with this weird back and forth to where eventually, A, it's a hassle and then B, it's just kind of not impossible to get rid of hiss.

Speaker A

There are great tools and things like that, but if you can just record things the best you can, you're already going to save yourself a ton of time.

Speaker A

Yeah.

Speaker A

If you're going to use Auphonic, just export out of GarageBand as a wav file and upload it to Auphonic and you'll be amazed.

Speaker A

It just, it's.

Speaker A

It's kind of a miracle worker.

Speaker A

It'll.

Speaker A

Because especially if you're doing any interviews or, you know, you're playing clips, you know, sometimes you hit the button, you're like, oh, I didn't realize that was that loud.

Speaker A

It'll bring those down and it'll bring the ones that are too soft up and somehow it removes the hiss without making it sound like you're underwater.

Speaker A

So it's pretty cool.

Speaker A

Any other questions?

Speaker B

No, that's it.

Speaker B

I appreciate your time.

Speaker A

I gotta ask you, what inspired you to get in the hot seat?

Speaker B

For a very long time, I've been thinking about getting a podcast coach, and I've been waffling on it and finally my wife said, just pull the trigger.

Speaker B

Just do it.

Speaker B

So, of course I went to your website and I thought about it and then I saw the hot seat.

Speaker B

I thought, you know what, why don't I just jump in and I don't mind getting kicked in the rear end, you know, from time to time.

Speaker B

So I thought, why not?

Speaker A

And I always tell people it's usually not that it's absolutely horrible, like everything we found here today.

Speaker A

Oh, your volume's a little off.

Speaker A

You know, it took you a bit to get to the content.

Speaker A

That's fixable.

Speaker A

You know, you're pointing to the wrong thing.

Speaker A

And Libsyn, that's fixable.

Speaker A

Like, it's nothing.

Speaker A

Like, oh, this is, you know, the worst podcast I've ever heard.

Speaker A

No, and you've got.

Speaker A

You guys have been doing this a While.

Speaker A

So you're up to it and the other thing.

Speaker A

And correct me if it sounds like you guys are having fun.

Speaker B

We are.

Speaker B

It's enjoyable.

Speaker B

You know, we hope to be doing this into our 80s.

Speaker A

Yeah, that's it.

Speaker A

That's me.

Speaker A

As long as I can talk and got my brain, I'm like, I'm ready to do this.

Speaker A

People like, well, how long are you going to podcast?

Speaker A

I'm like, till the day I die, hopefully.

Speaker A

So, you know, because the older we get, the wiser we get and we got more time if you got empty nests going on.

Speaker A

A lot of the people I work with are boomers and I'm like, don't turn your back on a boomer, man.

Speaker A

They got lots of knowledge, lots of time and a budget.

Speaker A

So go to town.

Speaker A

Ernie, thanks for coming on the show.

Speaker B

Thanks for having me.

Ernie "Lovey" Cason

Co-Host Married Into Crazy

"Lovey" from the Married into Crazy show.

We met on a blind date, and when we got engaged, my heart was pierced! Not by cupid’s arrow, but by an old steak knife wielded by Snooks’ enraged ex-boyfriend. After two successful open-heart surgeries (one to save my life, and the other to sew the hole the knife made on the back of my heart) I can honestly say, "My heart is all hers."
